How We’re Governed
Governance & Oversight
Heart of Grace is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that meets quarterly (February, May, August, and November) to review operations, approve budgets, and ensure the organization stays true to its mission. No board member receives compensation for their service.
Our board has adopted formal policies covering financial controls, conflict of interest, document retention, gift acceptance, and whistleblower protection — the same governance standards expected of established nonprofits, because accountability starts on day one.
As a 501(c)(3) public charity, we file annual returns with the IRS and are registered with the Nebraska Secretary of State. Our IRS Determination Letter, bylaws, and organizational policies are available upon request.

Your Dollars at Work
Financial Stewardship
Heart of Grace is an all-volunteer organization. We have no paid staff, no office lease, and no overhead salaries. That means the vast majority of every dollar donated goes directly to our programs — assembling and delivering Care Bags, relieving financial burdens for families, and providing essentials through our Closet of Grace.
As a small, early-stage nonprofit, we currently file the IRS Form 990-N (e-Postcard) annually, which is the standard filing for tax-exempt organizations with gross receipts under $50,000. As the organization grows, we will transition to more detailed public filings and publish annual reports on this page.
Our financial controls policy requires board approval for expenditures above defined thresholds, dual review of financial transactions, and quarterly financial reporting to the Board of Directors. We maintain these standards because we believe donors deserve to know their gifts are handled with care.
Donations are processed securely through Zeffy, a platform that charges zero fees to nonprofits — so 100% of your donation reaches Heart of Grace.
